UTILISATION OF LIBRARY INFORMATION RESOURCES FOR ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES AMONG OFFICER CADETS IN UNIVERSITIES IN NORTH-WEST, NIGERIA

Abstract
This study investigated utilization of library information resources for academic
activities among officer cadets in universities North-west, Nigeria. Three research
questions guided the study in line with the research objectives. The study adopted
descriptive survey research design. The study population comprised four thousand and
twenty-seven (4,027) officer cadets in universities in North-west, Nigeria with sample
size of 351. A structured questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. Data
were analyzed using frequency counts, percentage, mean and standard deviation with
criterion mean of 2.50 benchmark. Findings revealed that the extent to which officer
cadets engaged in academic activities was high, the types of library information
resources used was by officer cadets was positive. Based on the findings, the study
concluded that officer cadets in universities in North-west, Nigeria need. The study
recommended that the management of universities in North-west, Nigeria should
enhance in providing other information resources like abstract, indexing, yearbooks,
atlas by making these information resources available it will enhance the officer cadet's
performance in the universities. Also the officer cadets should also be sensitize by the
universities library management on the role utilisation of library information resources
could play in their military career too, rather than academic activities alone.
